01The Service
DID.is resolves decentralized identifiers, credentials and agent descriptions and reports the evidence: what was checked, against which published standard, with what result, and what could not be checked. Results describe evidence observed at a point in time. They are not a rating, endorsement, identity guarantee or legal, financial or compliance advice. You decide whether evidence is enough for your purpose.
Public resolution on did.is and the public evidence API are free and rate-limited. Paid plans add private, metered access and monitoring for your own projects. Plans never change verification verdicts: paying and non-paying callers receive identical evidence for the same identifier.
02Accounts and security
You need an account for the console, API keys and paid plans. Give an email address you control, keep your password and API keys secret, and tell us promptly at [email protected] if you think they were exposed. API key secrets are shown once; we store only a hash and cannot show them again. You are responsible for activity under your account and keys until you revoke them.
You must be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent where you live, if higher) and able to form a binding contract. Accounts are for people and organisations, not automated sign-up.
03Plans, payment and taxes
Paid plans are monthly subscriptions in US dollars at the price shown on Pricing when you subscribe. Payments are processed by Stripe; we never receive your full card number. By subscribing you authorise recurring charges to your payment method each month until you cancel.
A plan applies only after Stripe confirms the subscription and our server verifies it. Allowances reset on the 1st of each calendar month; unused operations do not roll over. When an allowance is used up, requests are refused with an explicit error until the reset or an upgrade. There is no automatic overage charge.
Prices exclude taxes. Where we are required to collect sales tax, VAT or GST, it is calculated from your billing address and shown at checkout and on the invoice before you pay; business customers may add a tax ID. Otherwise you are responsible for taxes on your purchase. If a payment fails, we retry and keep your plan for a 3-day grace period; after that the project returns to the Free allowance until payment succeeds. Cancellation, upgrades, downgrades and refunds follow the Billing & Refund Policy, which is part of these Terms.
We may change prices for future billing periods with at least 30 days’ notice by email. A change never applies to a period you have already paid for, and you can cancel before it takes effect.
04Support payments
You may make a voluntary one-time payment to support the project. It is not a charitable donation and is not tax-deductible. It gives no plan, feature, priority, ownership or other rights, and it is not refundable except as stated in the Billing & Refund Policy.
05International use
DID.is is provided from the United States and is available worldwide. Prices are in US dollars; your bank may apply conversion fees. Taxes are added where we are required to collect them. You are responsible for complying with the laws that apply to you where you use the Service.
You may not use the Service if you are located in, or are a resident or government of, a country or region subject to comprehensive US sanctions, or if you are on a US government restricted-party list. You will not export or provide the Service in violation of US export control or sanctions laws.
06Acceptable use
Use the Service lawfully and within the Acceptable Use Policy. In short: do not attack, overload or probe the Service or third parties through it, do not get around limits or share keys to pool allowances, and do not use evidence to harass, discriminate against or unlawfully track people.
07Your content and public listings
You keep all rights to what you submit: identifiers, credentials, webhook URLs, policies and listing text (“Customer Content”). You give us a limited licence to process it only to provide, secure and support the Service. We do not sell it or use it to train models.
Identifiers and documents that are already public (for example a DID document published by its controller) may be resolved and cached by anyone. A listing in Discover appears only after its controller proved control and chose to be listed, and it can be removed by that controller at any time.
08Our property and open standards
The Service, the DID.is name and logo, and the site design belong to us. SDKs and other code we publish under an open-source licence are governed by that licence. Standards referenced by the Service belong to their authors. You may quote and share evidence results with attribution to DID.is. Feedback you send may be used without obligation.
09Availability and changes
We work to keep the Service available and publish live health at Status. Self-service plans have no uptime commitment; Enterprise contracts may include one. We may change or retire features; if a change materially reduces a paid plan you are using, we will tell you in advance and you may cancel and receive a pro-rated refund for the unused paid period.
10Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account in the console at any time; first cancel any active subscription. We may suspend or end access if you materially breach these Terms, create a security risk, fail to pay, or if the law requires it. Where reasonable we will warn you first and give you a chance to fix the issue. If we end your access without cause, we refund the unused part of any prepaid period.
11Disclaimers
Evidence depends on third parties (DID controllers, registries, web servers, networks) that we do not control. Except as stated in these Terms, the Service is provided “as is” and “as available”, and we disclaim implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement to the extent the law allows. Nothing here limits rights you have as a consumer that cannot be waived by contract.
12Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, neither party is liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or lost profits, revenue or data, arising from the Service. Our total liability for all claims in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of the amounts you paid us for the Service in that period or US$100.
These limits do not apply to liability that cannot be limited by law, including for fraud, gross negligence, wilful misconduct, or death or personal injury caused by negligence.
13Indemnity
If you use the Service for business purposes, you will defend and indemnify us against third-party claims arising from your Customer Content or your breach of these Terms or the law, and pay resulting reasonable costs, provided we notify you promptly and let you control the defence.
14Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming, United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. Courts located in Wyoming have exclusive jurisdiction, except that either party may seek injunctive relief anywhere. If you are a consumer living in the European Union, the United Kingdom or another country whose law gives you the right to sue at home or protects you with mandatory rules, you keep those rights.
Before filing a claim, please write to [email protected] so we can try to resolve it informally within 30 days.
15General
We may update these Terms. For material changes we give at least 30 days’ notice by email or in the console; continuing to use the Service after that date means you accept the new Terms. These Terms, the policies they link to and any order form are the entire agreement on this subject. If a provision is unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Neither party is liable for delays caused by events beyond reasonable control. You may not transfer these Terms without our consent; we may transfer them to a successor of the Service. The English version controls.
